Altitude and Acclimitisation

Our Itinerary is well considered about altitude and acclimatization and we are well equiped for our trekking staffs.

Causes of altitude sickness

  1. Less of Oxygen
  2. Low pressure i.e.Barometric(climatic) pressure
  3. Rapid ascent
  4. Possible Dhydration
  5. Hypothermia (Chilled)

Types of Altitude sickness

  • AMS - Acute Mountain sickness (mild symptom fells like hangover/not feeling well)
  • HAPE - High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (lung problem by water in the lung)
  • HACE - High Altutude Cerebral Edema (mental of psychological problem, water in head)

Symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness

  1. Headache
  2. Fatigue/Tireness
  3. Shortness of breath/respiration
  4. Loss of appetite
  5. Sleep disturbance

Symptoms of HAPE

  1. Increasing shortness of breath even at rest
  2. Severe cough (dry, difficulty in cough)
  3. Very tiredness (unusual fatigue while walking)
  4. High pulse rate (i.e. 110)
  5. Blueness of face,lip,fingernails (that means inability to transport oxygen into the blood)

Symptoms of HACE (Severe Symptoms)

  1. Severe headache
  2. Vomiting
  3. Ataxia/walking like drunk
  4. Altered mental status/mental confusion
  5. Irritable (doesn't want to be bother by other people)
  6. Unconsciousness


  1. Acclimitization
  2. Do not make rapid ascent, don't go too fast too high
  3. No alchohol,sleeping pills and smoking
  4. Drink more fluid 3 - 4ltres a day (clean water - boiled or treated,soup,juice etc)
  5. Climb high sleep lower)
  6. Over 3000m, 300m ascent only a day
  7. Don't travel alone
