Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo

Gokyo is a high altitude trek in the Everest region where you can observe Nepals' longest glacier, the Ngazumpa and a series of beautiful high altitude lakes. There are a total of six lakes. Gokyo and associated lakes have a total area of 7700 hectares and were designated as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar convention in 2007. The alpine pasture and sloping mountains of the Gokyo valley support a number of endangered species such as Kutki plant, Himalayan Thar, Snow Leopard and Wood Snip. This area is important for many species of birds which migrate over the Himalayas . The side trip of the rocky peak, Gokyo Ri (5,350m), is a spectacula Himalayan view point. You can see the vast bulk of the Ngazumpa glacier and Gokyo lakes, with the settlement on the shores of the third one. Four of the worlds ten 8000m plus peaks; Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu and Everest are seen at the same time. The top of the Gokyo Ri is criss-crossed with prayer flags which flutter in the fierce wind. Another side trip from Gokyo is further through the valley along the Ngazumpa glacier through the valley on the moraine, with alpine pasture offering soaring and dramatic views of mountains peaks including Cho Oyu (8201m), Gychung Kang (7922m), Mt. Everest and the 4th and 5th lakes. You can combine this trek with the Everest base camp trek by crossing over a High altitude pass called the Cho La (5,330m).
