 The Complete Guide to Tamur River Rafting Tour

Tamur River is one of the most exciting and challenging rivers in Nepal, with rapids ranging from class III to IV+. The river originates in the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas and flows through dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and remote villages before reaching the lowlands of eastern Nepal.

Each night, you'll camp under the stars on the banks of the river, enjoying delicious meals cooked over an open fire. You'll have plenty of time to relax and soak in the natural beauty of the area before getting back on the river for another day of adventure.

 Itinerary

  • Day 1 - Arrival in Kathmandu

    Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you'll be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day exploring the vibrant city.

  • Day 2 - Drive to Basantapur

    After breakfast, we'll drive to Basantapur, a small village nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains and valleys.

  • Day 3 - Trek to Chauki

    Today we'll begin our trek to Chauki, a picturesque village located at an altitude of 2,700 meters. The trail passes through dense forests and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

  • Day 4 - Trek to Gupha Pokhari

    We'll continue our trek to Gupha Pokhari, a beautiful lake surrounded by lush forests. This is a great spot for bird watching and taking in the peaceful surroundings.

  • Day 5 - Trek to Dobhan

    Today's trek will take us to Dobhan, a small village on the banks of the Tamur River. We'll camp here for the night and prepare for our rafting adventure.

  • Day 6 - 9 Rafting on the Tamur River

    Over the next four days, we'll embark on an exciting rafting journey down the Tamur River. The river offers a mix of rapids and calm stretches, and we'll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.

  • Day 10 - Rest day

    After four days of rafting, we'll take a well-deserved rest day in a beautiful riverside camp. Enjoy some leisure time or explore the surrounding area on foot.

  • Day 11 - Rafting to Chatara

    We'll continue our rafting journey down the Tamur River and eventually reach Chatara, a small town on the banks of the river. Here, we'll bid farewell to our rafting crew and head back to Kathmandu.

  • Day 12 - Departure

    Your tour ends today. Depending on your departure time, you may have some free time to explore Kathmandu before being transferred to the airport for your flight home.

While basic swimming skills are recommended, they are not required. All participants are required to wear a life jacket, and our guides will teach you the necessary safety skills to enjoy the trip.

We recommend leaving electronic devices in a safe, dry location as they may be damaged or lost during the rafting trip. Our guides will take photos and videos of your adventure, which you can purchase after the trip.

We provide snacks and water on the trip, but you are welcome to bring your own food and drinks if desired. Please let us know in advance if you have any dietary restrictions or preferences.

We recommend booking as far in advance as possible. We run at capacity for most of the summer and many trips will sell out well over a month in advance.

Unfortunately, there is currently no third-party insurance system available for Nepal's whitewater industry, meaning that we are unable to provide insurance coverage for participants. To ensure the safety of all our clients, we require that they have appropriate emergency medical and evacuation insurance that is suitable for the activity and adventure level they are undertaking.
