Kanchenjunga North Base Camp Trek

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our representative will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in, you can relax or explore the vibrant streets of Thamel at your leisure. In the evening, you'll meet your trekking guide for a detailed trip briefing, equipment check, and final preparations for the Kanchenjunga North Base Camp Trek. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

After breakfast, enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu's UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square (depending on time and itinerary). In the afternoon, return to the hotel for a final trek briefing, permit verification, and equipment check. Use the remaining time to purchase or rent any last-minute trekking gear before your adventure begins. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

After an early breakfast, take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur. Upon arrival, begin a picturesque drive through the hills and tea gardens of eastern Nepal to Taplejung, the gateway to the Kanchenjunga region. Enjoy beautiful views of rural landscapes, terraced fields, and traditional villages along the way. Upon arrival, check in to your lodge and prepare for the trek starting the following day. Overnight stay in Taplejung.

After breakfast, drive from Mitlung to Sukethum, where the trekking trail begins. From Sukethum, follow the scenic path along the Ghunsa Khola, crossing suspension bridges and passing through lush forests, waterfalls, and small settlements. The trail gradually ascends to the peaceful village of Amjilosa (2,510 m), offering the first true taste of the remote Kanchenjunga region. Overnight stay at a local teahouse in Amjilosa.

After breakfast, continue trekking through dense forests of rhododendron, bamboo, and pine while following the Ghunsa Khola upstream. Cross several suspension bridges and enjoy the peaceful surroundings as the trail gradually ascends to the traditional Tibetan-influenced village of Gyabla (2,730 m). The day's walk offers beautiful natural scenery and opportunities to experience the unique culture of the Kanchenjunga region. Overnight stay at a local teahouse in Gyabla.

Today's trail gradually climbs through beautiful forests, open meadows, and traditional mountain villages as you follow the Ghunsa Khola upstream. Pass the settlements of Phale and enjoy the region's Tibetan Buddhist culture, including prayer flags, mani walls, and chortens. By afternoon, arrive at Ghunsa (3,600 m), the largest village in the upper Kanchenjunga region and an important acclimatisation stop before heading to higher elevations. Overnight stay at a local teahouse in Ghunsa.

Today is reserved for acclimatization to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude. You can take a short hike to nearby viewpoints or surrounding hills for panoramic views of the surrounding peaks before returning to Ghunsa. Spend the rest of the day exploring this traditional Tibetan-influenced village, visiting the local monastery, and preparing for the higher-altitude trekking ahead. After breakfast, leave Ghunsa and follow the trail along the Ghunsa Khola through alpine forests, rocky terrain, and glacial valleys. As the elevation increases, enjoy magnificent views of snow-capped peaks, including Jannu (Kumbhakarna). The trail gradually ascends to Kambachen (4,100 m), a small seasonal settlement surrounded by spectacular Himalayan scenery. Overnight stay at a local teahouse in Kambachen.

Today's trek follows a rugged alpine trail through glacial landscapes and rocky moraines as you ascend above the tree line. Cross streams and pass dramatic mountain scenery with breathtaking views of surrounding Himalayan peaks. After a steady climb, arrive at Lhonak (4,790 m), a remote settlement nestled beside the Kanchenjunga Glacier and the final overnight stop before reaching North Base Camp. Today is the highlight of the trek. After an early breakfast, hike to Pangpema (5,143 m), the official North Base Camp of Mount Kanchenjunga. The trail follows glacial terrain and rewards you with spectacular panoramic views of Kanchenjunga, Jannu (Kumbhakarna), Chang Himal, and surrounding snow-covered peaks. After spending time enjoying the breathtaking scenery and capturing photographs, retrace your steps back to Lhonak for an overnight stay at a local teahouse.

After breakfast, begin your descent from Lhonak along the scenic glacial valley, retracing the trail through rugged alpine landscapes and rocky moraines. Enjoy impressive views of Kanchenjunga and the surrounding Himalayan peaks as you make your way back to Kambachen (4,100 m). Upon arrival, relax and enjoy the peaceful mountain surroundings. Overnight stay at a local teahouse in Kambachen.

After breakfast, descend through alpine meadows and forests while retracing the trail along the Ghunsa Khola. Enjoy scenic views of the surrounding peaks and pass traditional mani walls, prayer flags, and yak pastures before reaching the picturesque village of Ghunsa (3,600 m). Spend the evening relaxing and reflecting on your journey to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp. Overnight stay at a local teahouse in Ghunsa.

After breakfast, continue descending through beautiful rhododendron, pine, and bamboo forests while following the Ghunsa Khola. Pass the traditional villages of Phale and Gyabla, enjoying the peaceful mountain scenery and local culture along the way. Depending on the trekking pace and itinerary, overnight at Gyabla or continue to Amjilosa, where you will stay at a local teahouse.

After breakfast, descend through lush forests and cross several suspension bridges as you follow the Ghunsa Khola to Sukethum, marking the end of the trekking trail. From Sukethum, drive through the scenic hills of eastern Nepal to Taplejung (2,420 m). Upon arrival, check in to your lodge and enjoy a well-deserved rest after completing your Himalayan adventure. After an early breakfast, drive from Taplejung to Bhadrapur, passing through the scenic hills and tea gardens of eastern Nepal. Upon arrival, board your domestic flight back to Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu, transfer to your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure, celebrating the successful completion of your Kanchenjunga North Base Camp Trek.
