Nepal Trekking Gear List & Packing Checklist

Packing the right gear is essential for a safe and comfortable trek in the Himalayas. Weather and trail conditions can change quickly, so we recommend packing light while carrying the essentials. Most trekking equipment can also be rented or purchased in Kathmandu before your trek.

Essential Clothing

Dress in layers to stay warm and comfortable in changing mountain conditions.

  • Thermal base layers
  • Quick-dry trekking shirts
  • Fleece jacket
  • Down jacket
  • Waterproof jacket and pants
  • Trekking pants
  • Warm hat, sun cap, and gloves
  • Wool or synthetic trekking socks

Footwear

  • Waterproof trekking boots with ankle support
  • Camp shoes or sandals
  • Extra socks and boot laces

Make sure your trekking boots are well broken in before your trip.

Trekking Equipment

  • 30–40L backpack
  • Duffel bag (if using a porter)
  • Sleeping bag (-10°C to -15°C)
  • Trekking poles
  • Headlamp with spare batteries
  • Water bottle or hydration system
  • Rain cover and dry bags

Personal Items

Carry only the essentials, including:

  • Toiletries

Before your trek, ensure you have:

Seasonal Packing Tips
